The Force Light alloy wheel is a brand-new product from the delta4x4 off-road specialists. This 20-inch Beadlock wheel features a two-piece forged construction. The wheel is designed so that tyres can be mounted with or without the Beadlock ring, allowing you to choose whether to use the Beadlock function according to your needs.

What is Beadlock technology?

Beadlock is a mechanical system that securely locks the tyre to the wheel.

With a conventional wheel, the tyre bead is held against the wheel by the internal air pressure. If tyre pressure drops—due to a puncture or because the pressure has been intentionally reduced for off-road driving—the tyre can lose its grip and even come off the wheel completely.

Lower tyre pressure is often used on sand, snow, or mud to increase the tyre's contact patch and traction. To prevent the tyre from slipping off the wheel in these situations, the delta4x4 Beadlock system uses a locking ring that mechanically clamps the tyre bead to the wheel flange during installation. As a result, the tyre remains securely attached to the wheel, whether it is inflated or not.

Under extreme acceleration or heavy braking, the friction between the tyre and the wheel may also become insufficient, allowing the tyre to rotate on the wheel. The Beadlock system prevents this by mechanically locking the tyre in place. The word "lock" refers to the mechanical locking mechanism, while "bead" refers to the tyre bead that sits in the wheel seat. Together, Beadlock means a tyre that is mechanically secured to the wheel.

Where are Beadlock wheels used?

Beadlock technology originally comes from the military sector, where vehicles must remain operational even after a complete loss of tyre pressure. Military requirements often specify that vehicles must still be capable of travelling up to 100 km at speeds of up to 80 km/h after a puncture. This is achieved through the combination of the Beadlock ring and a run-flat insert.

Today, Beadlock wheels are increasingly used in the civilian market, including armoured vehicles, expedition vehicles, and long-distance rally cars. Their biggest advantage is that tyre pressure can be reduced to extremely low levels without the tyre coming off the wheel. The resulting increase in traction is one of the key reasons for choosing a Beadlock system.
